Buildings in New Zealand are governed by the
Building Act
and the Building Code whose purpose is to ensure that buildings and similar
structures are safe for those who use them.
By law, local councils must ensure that all new buildings
and significant renovations comply with the Act and the Code. We do this by consenting, inspecting and certifying building work.
