TRAINING

CDEM training involves combinations of NZQA Unit Standards based training courses and informal hands-on training aimed at Council staff with CDEM responsibilities and community CDEM volunteers.

Formal courses are offered through a number of Council-approved training providers and Council’s own Emergency Management Office (EMO), which has two full-time staff. Informal training sessions are conducted by the EMO staff.

Training Calendar

A training calendar is provided for each training year (1 July – 30 June) and this calendar can be adjusted to include known NZQA courses. Click here to view a copy of the Training Calendar.

Training Competencies

Council’s Emergency Management Office maintains a register of the various CDEM positions within its Emergency Operations Centre and certain community response groups.

This register shows the various CDEM competencies that each appointment within those structures should ideally have in order to meet their CDEM responsibilities. The register also shows the respective competencies for Selwyn District’s rural fire fighting staff. Council offers opportunities for personnel to undertake courses/ training to acquire these competencies.
