GISBORNE - A WAKE-UP SHAKE-UP FOR US ALL read more... Welcome to Selwyn District Council’s Civil Defence Emergency Management (CDEM) website. Under the CDEM Act 2002 territorial authorities, of which Selwyn District Council is one, must be prepared to coordinate response to "all-hazards" emergencies including civil defence emergencies that affect their Districts. The term "all-hazards" extends beyond traditional Civil Defence hazards, such as earthquakes, to all major hazards, including rural fires, bio-chemical disasters, multi-faceted accidents and pandemic disease. Our Mission The aim of CDEM is to protect communities against all-hazards emergencies and assist communities to help themselves get back on their feet as quickly as possible. This website aims to assist Selwyn District with CDEM preparedness through awareness and education, and to provide guidance on CDEM response measures. There may also be information of interest to other CDEM personnel or members of the public who have some specific interest in CDEM.
