About SeniorNet and Selwyn-SeniorNet
SeniorNet: a research project in 1986 in San Francisco which discovered a need for 'Peer Group training at your own pace' for over 50's. There are now around 90 centres around New Zealand. Membership brings other benefits - for instance discounts on car purchase, PC's, printer cartridges etc. Go to www.seniornet.co.nz for more information on the NZ Federation.
SeniorNet is a non-profit organisation. Tutors are all volunteers and are all the same Age Group as the course/workshop delegates.
A wide range of courses and workshops are available at the different centres on both Microsoft Windows and Macintosh (Apple) based systems. More recently, Courses or Workshops have added iPad, Android Tablets and Smart Phones to the traditional subjects - Windows 7 and 8.1, Word, E-Mails, Excel, Skype, Trade Me, Digital Picture Downloading, Vinyl to CD etc
Selwyn SeniorNet: In 2013, the separate SeniorNet Selwyn centres of Leeston, Lincoln and Rolleston were brought together under a Selwyn District Council initiative into a Selwyn group and a new Centre was started at Darfield.
The group is affiliated to the national Federation and has financial backing from the DC in the form of free usage of Library facilities, subsidised course fees and equipment supply and the significant advantages of sharing scarce resource of tutors and expertise amongst the volunteers.
Selwyn SeniorNet welcomes all Selwyn residents to become involved in our organisation. Enjoy learning how to operate your computer, get on line, receive and send Emails, chat on Skype to family overseas, Download your photos and those things that you currently say to your Grandchildren like "Can you do this for me?"
