Local Body Elections are held every three years. The next election for the Council and Community Board elected members will be held on the 9th of October 2010.   A timetable for this election is now available.  The last election was held in October 2007.

You must be enrolled as a parliamentary elector to vote in these elections.  Enrolements can be done:

  • through the Elections New Zealand website;  or
  • by collecting forms from your local New Zealand Post Shop;  or
  • by phoning 0800enrolnow [0800 267 656];  or
  • by sending your name and address to Freetext 3676 [a form will be posted to you]

Remember to update your details if you have shifted house in the last three years or turned 18 years of age.

Selwyn District Council has recently completed their Representation Review which sets out the basis for election at the next triennial elections in 2010. This includes the number of wards, the number of councillors for each ward and the number of community boards.

Local Body elections are governed by the Local Electoral Act 2002 and further information on election procedure or standing as a candidate can be obtained from the Electoral Officer, Douglas Marshall, or the Deputy Electoral Officer, Judith Pascoe.
