A portion of the council's income comes from profitable investments which are managed by the council's holding company, Selwyn Investment Holdings Ltd (SIHL). A copy of the Council's investment guidelines adopted for SIHL can be viewed here.

• Ferguson Brothers Limited (75.10% shareholding) Type of business: roading and civil construction

• Orion Group Limited (10.725% shareholding) Type of business: electricity
