Economic Development We see economic development as a subset of community development. It is one of the four strands of community wellbeing. The council plays a day to day role in providing courses and advice to small businesses and in helping promote the district as a tourist destination and potential investment site for certain industries and small businesses. Sometimes the council has gone further than this and invested substantial funding and resources in getting major economic development projects started. Examples include:
