Outdoor burning 100 metres
upwind or 50 metres in any other direction from sensitive activities on
properties zoned rural is NOT permitted without a resource consent from
the regional council,
Environment Canterbury (ECAN) (Rule AQL29 Canterbury
Natural Resources Regional Plan,
Chapter 3: Air Quality also known as the Air Plan).
Sensitive activities include:
If a resource consent were obtained for
burning on a property zoned rural near a sensitive area, then any
outdoor fire would also have to comply with the
fire restrictions of the Selwyn District
Council.
In addition, depending on where the fire
is to be lit, further fire permits may be required from the
Department of
Conservation
or the relevant Rural Fire Authority.
