current fire restrictions

 FOR HANGIS

To light hangi fires, the following guidelines are recommended as 'best practice'.

  1. The fire must be lit and contained within the hangi pit.

  2. There must be a 3 metre area clear of combustible material surrounding the pit

  3. The area must be serviced by a high pressure water system

  4. The fire must be lit and extinguished during daylight hours

  5. The fire must be attended by someone at all times until it is completely out

  6. Fires must not be lit when strong winds are blowing or forecast. Strong winds are those above 20 kilometres per hour.

  7. Fires must not be lit or allowed to burn when the smoke is likely to cause a nuisance to neighbours.

For more information, please contact the Principal Rural Fire Officer, Wilson Brown.
