Selwyn District
has a thriving creative community, including acclaimed artists, writers
and musicians. In recognition and support of this, the Malvern
Community Arts Council Inc., assisted by the Selwyn District Council,
established the Selwyn Gallery in 1998.
The gallery
showcases and sells the best of the district's artworks and crafts and
also hosts exhibitions by internationally acclaimed artists, visiting
exhibitors, private collectors and local groups.
The gallery is
the focal centre of Darfield's popular annual Art
Week, which takes art
to the community through workshops, exhibitions and art displays
both at the gallery and in local cafes and shops.
