We’re looking to offer more spaces for you to take your furry friend to run around – and we’re looking for your feedback.

The Council is now undertaking public consultation on changes to its Dog Bylaw, which include the addition of several new areas where off-leash exercise is permitted, and additions to the list of schools and other locations where dogs are prohibited.

Proposed new off-leash exercise areas include Foster Park (Rolleston), Leeston Dog Exercise Area, McHughs Forest Park, Preston Avenue Reserve (West Melton), Coalgate Recreation Reserve, Dryden Reserve (Rolleston), Edendale Reserve, Waihora Domain (Motukarara), and Westview Park (Darfield).

Schools added to the list of areas prohibited to dogs include Rolleston College, West Rolleston School, and Lemonwood Grove School, along with the Darfield and Prebbleton skate parks.

The Council wants to hear your views on the draft policy. The consultation period finishes on Friday 8 September 2017.
