Summer in Selwyn events continue with a range of free fun family-friendly events coming up.

Local events organised by the Council as part of the event series include picnics in the park, outdoor family movies, music on the green and a summer skate jam series at locations across Selwyn.

Summer in Selwyn events coming up are:

Kim Hill Debate
Thursday 23 March, 7pm, Lincoln University
Join radio personality Kim Hill for a debate with expert panellists on ‘Water – a global issue affecting New Zealand.’ $5 koha entry. At the Stewart Building

Saturday 25 March (community organised event)
Earth Hour Candle Lit Dance Lincoln High School Hall ,7.30pm
Music by the Southern Celtic Fiddle Orchestra. Entry at the door $15 or register early at earthhourdance.eventbrite.co.nz for discounted tickets (or phone Dave on 03 4230445). Children under 14 are free with adult.

Saturday 25 March (community organised event)
Earth Hour Skywatching R.F. Joyce Memorial Observatory, Bell's Road, West Melton, 8pm
Watch the night sky this Earth Hour. The Canterbury Astronomical Society only requests a gold coin donation. For details and cancellation information in poor weather see www.cas.org.nz. Gates open at 8pm.

Music on the Green Darfield Domain 4.30-7pm
Pack a picnic and bring along your friends and family to be entertained by outstanding local musicians. Free

Lincoln Summer Skate Jam Lincoln Event Centre, 4-6pm
With free gear hire and coaching from experienced skaters, prizes and competitions. Great fun for all ages and abilities

Rolleston Summer Skate Jam Rolleston Skate Park 4pm-6pm
With free gear hire and coaching from experienced skaters, prizes and competitions. Great fun for all ages and abilities Thanks

Wednesday 5 April
West Melton Summer Skate Jam West Melton School, 4-6pm
With free gear hire and coaching from experienced skaters, prizes and competitions. Great fun for all ages and abilities

7-8 April
Lincoln Bioblitz (community organised event) Liffey Domain, 3.15pm
A 24 hour event from 3.15pm on 7 April where teams of scientists, helped by the public, public find as many different species as possible living in the Liffey Domain. Join groups searching the stream and banks. Fun, free and educational! Bugman Ruud Kleinpaste will open the event. Register for this free event at lincolnbioblitz.eventbrite.co.nz

Sunday 9 April
Leeston Music on the Green Anderson Square, 2.30-5pm

Wednesday 12 April
Glentunnel Summer Skate Jam Glentunnel School, 4-6pm
With free gear hire and coaching from experienced skaters, prizes and competitions. Great fun for all ages and abilities

22-23 April
NZ Ploughing Association Championship (community organised event) 1889 Highfield Road, Courtenay
A family day out with vintage displays, working demonstrations from various decades, ploughing challenge, hay bale maze, arts, crafts, play pit and food stalls. Email helenaandjeff@xtra.co.nz for details. Gates open at 8am with ploughing from 10.30am onwards. Entry $10, with children under 16 free.
