Boil Water Notices Update
Boil water notices in place for the Rolleston and Sheffield/Waddington water supplies have now been lifted.
A precautionary boil water notice for the Rolleston water supply was issued on Sunday, 12 May, when a test result was returned indicating that E.coli was present, at levels above the recommended level, in one bore which feeds into the town supply.
Several days of water test results have now been received which indicate that no trace of E.coli is present in the water and the water is safe to drink.
The Council’s Water Asset Manager, Murray England, says there are a number of reasons why water testing could have returned a positive test on 12 May, and they could include a lab error, a sampling error, contamination of ground water, or backflow contamination. The Council will be carrying out an investigation to look at why the positive test result was returned.
“When the Council received the positive test result we decided to issue a boil water notice to avoid the risk of anyone becoming sick,” he says. “We want to thank Rolleston residents for their help in alerting the community to the boil water notice when it was issued. We also appreciate the patience residents have shown while the notice has been in place.”
