Dog Microchipping

If your dog has been registered for the first time after June 30, 2006, then it legally needs to be microchipped (with the exception of working dogs). The Council is offering a free microchipping service at the following Selwyn District Council service centres.

Dog Microchipping Clinics

Friday 8th December

Leeston Library 12.45pm to 1.15pm
Darfield Library 9am to 9.30am
Lincoln Library 11.30am to 12pm
Council Offices Rolleston 10.15am to 10.45am

Please note the following:

All clinics last for only half an hour.

  • Rolleston is at the headquarters on Norman Kirk Drive
  • Microchipping will not take place if wet
  • This service is only being carried out once a month

If distance or dog numbers prevent you getting to a clinic, you may ask us to come and do the microchipping at your place.

Contact Tracey Wheeler.

Tips

Remember: If you get a dog from someone else and it is not registered for the financial year, then you will have to pay the full registration fee regardless of how many months are left.

Pets and Paws

In light of the recent increase in nationwide reported attacks by dogs on people which have been making headlines, it is timely to remind people to be wary of the potential of their dog to bite.

Like people, dogs can ‘have a bad day’ too. The family pet is a descendant of the wolf and still has many of those traits today. Sometimes the actions of a person can bring out those traits.

Photographing the young toddler crawling over a family dog might look cute but do you really want to take the risk? Some breeds have a high tolerance to these sorts of behaviours; however our more aggressive breeds do not.

The Selwyn District Council Animal Control team have undertaken to promote dog safety to the children of the district and will be approaching schools seeking to present a model of the highly acclaimed ‘world class’ Christchurch City Council education program. Education for all residents of the Selwyn District is a priority for the Selwyn District Council.
