Memorials are normally organized through monumental masons, who will also give advice as to suitable materials for use. A permit is issued for new headstones, as well as for additions to an existing headstone. Looking at existing headstones in council cemeteries gives a good indication of what is suitable. For detailed requirements, refer to the council bylaw.
Issues such as repairs to surrounds, tops or other work do not require a permit. This is treated as grave maintenance.
