I want to help

Current location in the site

Before offering to help others make sure you know that your own family is safe. Secondly check on your neighbours. Support and help your local community first.

If your own community is ok and you think you can offer help, please phone the Council office 347 2800 or go to the nearest Emergency Centre or Emergency Welfare Centre if you know these have been opened.

Often the area affected will have a shortage of food, water and accommodation. If you are going to help, think about what you can bring with you or how you may be able to help. Having people just turn up may take valuable resources away from those who really need them.

Remember just because you want to help does not mean you will be needed right then and there. It will depend on the priorities that the Emergency Management Team are working on, what skills, resource, and equipment is needed.
