Why Survey?
We conduct surveys to:
-
identify community needs, desires and concerns
-
get feedback on our services, projects and proposals
-
measure changes in 'community outcomes' (which are indicators of environmental, economic, social and cultural well-being in the district)
-
measure 'before and after' outcomes of projects and policy changes
-
track the social and demographic changes in our district
Residents and community surveys
Our residents and community surveys are conducted by telephone with large samples (typically 1,000) and high response rates (typically in the 60-80% range).
For more information on the Residents Survey, please read our answers to Frequently Asked Questions.
Other surveys
Most of our other surveys are conducted through self report forms, either delivered through the post, published in the newspaper or made available on online. Typically, the response rates to these are less than 30% and sometimes as low as 1%. For this reason, they should be seen more as consultation exercises rather than statistically accurate representations of residents' views.
Community Outcomes Questionnaires
The purpose of these questionnaires is to give residents an opportunity to say which community outcomes they want included in our Long-term Council Community Plan (LTCCP) - or Community Plan, for short.
The LTCCP Outcomes Questionnaires are self report forms that go to all ratepayers in a given area, rather than to a random sample. Typically, responses are from those who feel strongest about particular issues, rather than the general 'silent majority'.
