Aggressive Dog
Current location in the site
There are five different types of dog aggression:
1. Fear Induced Aggression
This form always comes after attempts by the dog at escape and using posture to communicate fear (crouching down, urinating, ears back, tail between legs). This is usually when the dog feels cornered.
2. Pain Induced Aggression
This is a natural form that occurs when a dog experiences or is threatened with pain, for example being treated at the vet clinic.
3. Punishment Induced Aggression
When the dog is threatened with physical punishment this is a form of defensive threat (defending itself from being hurt or attacked).
4. Territorial Aggression
Dogs are highly territorial animals, defending their territory from their own species as well as other species (postie, paper deliverer, or real estate agent). The territory can extend to protection of possessions like the car, house and yard area etc.
5. Dominance or Competitive Aggression
Occurs when establishing hierarchy or pecking order in the family or pack situation.
