Environment Canterbury has introduced Rules contained in the Clean Air section of the Natural Resources Plan which prohibits the following burning activities :
- Burning within a residential zoning
- Burning within 100m of a residential zoning or sensitive area
Those wishing to burn within these areas can apply for dispensation to these rules, by making an application for resource consent to Environment Canterbury.
To report or complain about someone burning in or near a residential zoning or sensitive area please phone the ECan pollution hotline on (03) 366 4663. Those found not complying with the rules or regulations can expect either a warning or fine.
