Water Utilities (5Waters)
Current location in the site
Providing piped and channeled water systems for drinking, drainage and sewerage is the responsibility of the Selwyn District Council. Our Water Assets Team manages most of the district's drinking water supplies, water races, drainage and sewerage.
Sustaining natural waterways (lakes, rivers, groundwater) is the responsibility of Canterbury's regional council kown as Environment Canterbury. In some cases the Department of Conservation may also have a role.
The Council has helped facilitate the proposed Central Plains Irrigation Scheme but does not own, manage or control it.
