Eastern Selwyn Sewerage Scheme AEE and Consents Applications Released

Council have completed an Assessment of Environmental Effects (AEE) for the proposed Pines II wastewater area at Burnham School Road, Rolleston - Canterbury. The AEE has been peer reviewed, and is now with the Canterbury Regional Council. The AEE is supported by Resource Consent applications.

Selwyn District Council proposes to expand the existing treatment plant and discharge up to 25,614m3/day of treated wastewater onto land. The following applications relate to activities carried out on land adjacent to Burnham School Road and Brookside Road on RS 36372, RS 33387, Lot 1 DP 309881, Lot 2 DP 309881, RES 4075, Pt RS 33357, RS 32956 and Pt Lot 1 DP 61557.

The contaminants in treated wastewater are known to include organic material, nitrogen, phosphorus, heavy metals and micro-organisms. The following discharge permits have been applied for:

CRC101109 – To discharge contaminants to land and air from the spray irrigation of up to 25,614m3/day of treated wastewater.

CRC101111 – To use land to store human effluent, and to stockpile decaying organic matter (biosolids).

The applicant has requested a duration of 35 years for both permits.
