Supporting the wellbeing and inclusions of our older residents living in Selwyn. SWELL provides a programme which brings people together with organisations and activities.

This year SWELL is promoting a programme of “giving it a go”, an opportunity to try out something new.

SWELL is two weeks of activities and events from 11–24 October.

Experienced Antarctic expedition guide John Rogers from the Antarctic Society will present several topics focusing on history. Themes include the early exploration and discovery of the great southern land, from Ptolemy to the Heroic Age, all forms of Antarctica’s ice, and the current atmospheric science and astronomy conducted in Antarctica.

Nature Wellness Walk

Sunday 24 October, 10am–12pm
McHughs Forest Park (Meet at car park on Horndon Street)
Led by Bex Dollery, a local ecologist and holistic health practitioner, these walks are about connecting to nature, our community and ourselves as well as getting some exercise. The walk will end with a cuppa made from some of the herbs and plants we find along the way accompanied by a yummy treat.
Please bring: walking shoes, clothes for the weather (sun block), a water bottle.

Broadfield Garden

This award-winning garden is about 3.5 hectares established over 20 years. Broadfield Garden features native varieties of azaleas, rhododendrons, camellias, cherry cornus, maples, peony perennials, daffodils, lilies, and roses.

Knockdolian Garden

Private garden open to the public. Many Deans families lived in the small cottage. In 1999 Steve and Michelle Lassche purchased the property and set about extending the garden. Knockdolian now has an established rhododendron, rock, rose, vegetable, native and woodland garden, along with a number of deep perennial borders.

Steventon Historic Homestead and Garden

Enjoy Lady Barker book readings and history talks. The house is a grade two listed historic place as it was the home of Lady Barker who wrote a series of books about her life in the 1860s. There are collections of historical clothing and items which can be viewed.
