Greener grass for Lincoln Domain

Current location in the site

Stage two of an automated irrigation system at Lincoln Domain will soon be under way.

The pop-up irrigation system installation on the back fields of the domain will begin in mid-August. The fields will be fenced off for six weeks for the installation and to allow grass to grow back. We hope to have these fields ready for the start of the cricket season in early October.

An automated irrigation system was installed late last year on the two fields in front of the Lincoln Event Centre at Lincoln Domain. This has made the irrigation of these fields much more efficient by being able to water the areas that need it the most, and we have been able to conserve water by watering through the night when there is less evaporation. While the Lincoln Domain is fortunate to have its own water supply we are conscious of using this precious commodity wisely. This irrigation also reduces the costs of staff time involved with operating the system as there will no longer need to be a manually operated system.

Groundsman Bruce Tweedy says the new system is a timer-saver, and is improving the quality of the fields. “The benefits have been noticeable with the fields still in great condition due to the grass cover and watering – any other year and the fields would be really muddy by now, it is also less labour intensive than having to move the irrigator three times a day and shift it every night” he says.
