Dog registration extended
The Council is moving to support dog owners as the lockdown has caused delays with processing registrations.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions at Alert Levels 3 and 4, the Council’s Animal Control team has not been able to process all of the received dog registrations.
In response to this the registration period for the final dogs to be registered has been extended to 30 September.
“At the moment we have a backlog of around 1,500 dog registrations which we will be able to work through once we are under COVID-19 Alert Level 2 and we are able to get back into our offices. At this stage we expect that there will be around a four- week delay to get all due dog tags out,” Animal Control team leader Steve Clarke says.
"We would like to reassure owners that if you have paid your dog’s registration fee, we can see your transaction, so we won’t be issuing any fines for your dog not being registered.”
Mr Clarke says owners who have not yet received their new One Tag should keep on their blue 2020 registration tag until the new One Tag has arrived.
The infringement fee of $300 for any unregistered dogs may now be issued by the Council after September. More information can be found on the dog registration page.
