Support for injured animals on its way
Hundreds of items made for animals hit hard by the Australian bush fires will be winging their way to Australia this week.
Selwyn Libraries has collected 719 items including fabric pouches, nests and mittens that have been made by crafters to help out animals suffering from the bush fires.
The items will be shipped to the Perth Wildlife Rescue Network. The network is acting as a hub for donated goods and will distribute them to other organisations across Western Australia as they are needed.
The libraries began offering patterns and the use of library equipment to sew and knit items in early January. Libraries Senior Arts, Culture and Lifelong Learning Co-ordinator Hayley Browne says what started out as a small way to assist people who wanted to help, has turned into a fantastic story of generosity.
“We’ve been overwhelmed with support locally, nationally and internationally. We’ve had messages from around the world and people sending things through from all over the place.”
