In Selwyn District, we have a high number of crashes involving older people compared to the rest of New Zealand. It is very important that we continue to upskill mature drivers, so they can continue driving for as long as possible. As part of our local road safety programme, we offer free courses and events to the older driver to increase their safety and confidence while driving.
Confident Driving Course
The Confident Driving Course for mature drivers is arranged five times per year in Selwyn District. They are held in Darfield, Rolleston, Lincoln, Prebbleton and Leeston.
The course is a one day, five hour session using a workbook, which you keep at the end of the course.
It is designed to be thought provoking, informative, enjoyable and informal. There are no tests or exams and you will receive a certificate of attendance.
These courses are advertised in the council call section of our local papers. Places are generally limited to 20 and for catering purposes bookings are requested. The course is free and morning tea and lunch is provided. Bookings can be made by contacting the Road Safety Co-ordinator or Age Concern, telephone 366 0903.
