Recently completed projects

TypeProject NameOutcomeDelivered
Wastewater Pines III Bioreactor Given the significant recent and ongoing growth within the Eastern Selwyn Sewerage Scheme (ESSS) urban communities of Prebbleton, Lincoln, Rolleston, West Melton and Springston, there was a need to increase the capacity of the Pines Wastewater Treatment Plant. The successful commissioning of the 3rd Pines Bioreactor and related works has increased the capacity of the treatment plant by approximately 50% to 45,000 person equivalent. Nov-18
Wastewater Tai Tapu Rising Main The wastewater pumping main between Tai Tapu and Christchurch was identified as reaching the end of its useful life, and a major leak risked causing ecological damage to the Halswell River. 1.5km of pipeline posing the highest risk has now been renewed significantly reducing this risk. Oct-18
Water West Melton Bore Due to ongoing growth of the West Melton  township, a new 180m deep bore was drilled and brought online in time for the Summer peak period. This additional capacity has improved the resilience of the West Melton water supply, providing safe, clean drinking water to the community. Oct-18
Water West Melton Pipelines 2 pipelines have been built interconnecting the Greater West Melton area. These include a 5km pipeline between Edendale and West Melton, and a 1km pipeline between Johnson Rd and West Melton. The successful completion of these projects has increased the security of supply for all communities concerned, and provides a platform for future growth in the Greater West Melton area. May-19
Water Sheffield and Hororata Water Treatment Plant In order to meet strict NZ Drinking Water Standards, the water treatment plants serving the Sheffield and Hororata townships and the surrounding countryside have been upgraded. These treatment plants now include UV water treatment and filtration technology. Mar-19
Water Linear Watermain Renewals As part of Selwyn District Council’s ongoing programme of water pipeline renewals throughout the District, pipes have been renewed in Castle Hill, Southbridge, Leeston, Coalgate, and at the Acheron. These projects have resulted in increased capacity for future growth in the district whilst providing a more reliable water supply to the community. August 2018 – May 2019
Water Dunsandel Reservoir A new 200m3 reservoir has been built and commissioned, increasing the resilience of the Dunsandel water supply. Aug-18
Water Dalethorpe Reservoir A new 397m3 reservoir has been built and commissioned, increasing the resilience of the Malvern Hills water supply. Feb-19
Water Upper Selwyn Huts Water Treatment Plant The water treatment plant and reservoirs at the Upper Selwyn Huts were damaged following the September 2010 earthquake. Temporary repairs were carried out at the time, however the site has recently had a complete overhaul bringing it up to modern standards, including the installation of UV water treatment and new reservoir. 2018
