All about why we need a property number and who to contact to find out what your number is. This also deals with naming of private right of ways

Property Numbers are a unique identifier to enable a property to be located.

Displaying your property number at the road frontage of your property is particularly useful for emergency services such as Police, Fire, Ambulance and Civil Defence. It is also helpful for service providers such as NZ Post, Telecom, courier drivers, power and gas companies to locate the property.

Allocation of property numbers occur as a result of a subdivision or by request from a property owner.

Council's property numbering and naming of private right of ways (N1) Policy [PDF, 36 KB] rules and guidelines are followed when allocating or renumbering properties. This policy is based on the Australian/New Zealand Standards for rural and urban addressing AS/NZS 4819:2011.
