Volunteering workshops & drop-in sessions

Selwyn District Council in collaboration with Volunteering Canterbury provide regular information sessions for volunteering. In addition to these drop-in sessions, comprehensive workshops are run periodically to support organisations attain and retain volunteers.


Selwyn Drop-In Sessions

Volunteering Canterbury can help with helping you to find a volunteer role, connecting your organisation with new volunteers and improving the volunteer experience at your not-for-profit or charity. Drop-in during any of the below sessions:

Are you a student needing service hours? Are you wanting to complete the William Pike Challenge, or Duke of Edinburgh Award, and need local volunteering opportunities? Are you a young person wanting to make a difference in our local community? Then pop along to our drop in session this school holidays, which is completely focussed on youth volunteering in the Selwyn District.

Police Vetting Volunteers | Tuesday 28 May | 1-2pm | Te Ara Ātea, 56 Tennyson St, Rolleston
For this session we will be linking with the Police Vetting Service team in Wellington, who will give an overview of the Police Vetting services provided, with an opportunity for you to ask your questions.

Volunteer Reimbursement | Tuesday 11 June | 1-2pm | Te Ara Ātea, 56 Tennyson St, Rolleston
This workshop addresses the do's and don'ts of volunteer reimbursement for volunteer expenses such as travel, parking, and work from home costs. The IRD will provide clarification of some specific terms and share practical examples.

Telling Your Organisation's Story | Tuesday 23 July | 1-2pm | Te Ara Ātea, 56 Tennyson St, Rolleston
Learn how to tell a compelling story about what your organisation does, and the difference it makes.

Outcome-based Accountability | Tuesday 6 August | 1-2pm | Te Ara Ātea, 56 Tennyson St, Rolleston
A useful face to face opportunity to hear what outcome-based accountability looks like from the funder’s desk. One of the messages from previous sessions similar to this is to remember that those on the end of the 'funders' phone are members of the community too and available to take that phone call with a question!
