PROPERTY FILES
A property file typically includes key building documentation such as issued building consent records (excluding the application), inspection reports when available, the Code Compliance Certificate (CCC), and as-built drainage plans.
Where resource consents are relevant to the property, you will find the consent decision and associated plans.
Additional resource consents can be provided on request. For broader property-related information, subject matter experts may be required. If you need subdivision details, please submit a request through our LGOIMA channel using the Selwyn District Council - LGOIMA request form
Please bear in mind that our turnaround time for property file requests is currently up to 5 working days.
ARCHIVES
The archives of the Selwyn District Council are a significant collection, comprising records of local government administration from as far back as the mid-1860s, right up to 1989. These records are chiefly in the form of books, files, documents, maps, plans and photographs. Our focus now is to preserve and make accessible this collection as required by the Public Records Act 2005. For researchers and those delving into their family history, it is definitely worth checking out the Council's archives, along with other repositories in the Central Canterbury area.
Our archives are stored at the Rolleston HQ. If you would like further information please contact the Information Management Team at archives@selwyn.govt.nz
To appreciate the scope of our archives, a brief history is available that relates to the evolution of local government within the geographical area that is now Selwyn District.
