Good Practice Guide for Subdividing Rural Residential Size Lots into Urban Sections

Rural-Lots-to-ResidentialSome areas on the edge of townships have been developed at rural residential density, on lots of around 0.5ha to 2ha in size.

Some of these areas, notably the Rolleston Living 1B zone, now fall within the boundaries of townships. These areas may be (or have been) re-zoned to an urban density, allowing residential subdivision.

There are particular constraints and opportunities with these sites. For instance, access can be difficult, but there are often mature trees which can add character to the subdivision.

The Good Practice Guide [PDF, 2325 KB] shows ways that large rural style lots within town boundaries can be redeveloped successfully.
