Youth Project Fund
If you’ve got an idea that supports young people, builds connection, or helps rangatahi grow their skills - this fund is here to help make it happen.
If your project:
- Is for rangatahi (12–24 years)
- Helps young people connect, grow, or feel included
- Supports wellbeing, leadership, or participation
…it’s worth having a kōrero with the Selwyn Youth Council via youth.council@selwyn.govt.nz
How to apply
Start by getting in touch with the Selwyn Youth Council at youth.council@selwyn.govt.nz
They’ll talk through your idea with you and help guide the next steps.
Funding decisions are made as applications come in, until the total budget for the year is used.
Project ideas
Not sure where to start? The Youth Project Fund could support things like:
- Youth-led or focussed creative projects or groups (art, music, dance, theatre)
- Cultural workshops or events that celebrate identity and diversity
- Youth-focused sports, skate, or recreation events
- Wellbeing projects that build confidence, resilience, or connection
- Leadership development programmes or skill-building workshops
- Youth-led projects that help rangatahi explore interests, strengths, or future pathways
Who and what can be funded
- An individual or group delivering a rangatahi-focused project in Waikirikiri Selwyn, or
- An individual participating in a youth wellbeing or leadership project (Funded participants are expected to share their learnings with the Youth Council)
Projects
- Must primarily benefit rangatahi aged 12–24
- May also benefit the wider Selwyn community, as long as the main focus is rangatahi
Extra conditions
- If a project is led by someone under 18, parent or guardian consent is required before funding is received.
What we want to see through the fund
- Stronger inclusion for rangatahi through better community connections and a stronger sense of identity
- Improved wellbeing, including social, cultural, physical, economic, and educational wellbeing
- Fewer barriers to participation, so more young people can get involved
- Leadership development for rangatahi
- Progress towards the goals of Piki Amokura | Selwyn’s Youth Strategy
