Inspection report - After the inspection, the site contact, project manager, and owner will receive the inspection report showing:

  • Whether the inspection passed or failed.
  • Any items that need to be fixed or provided.

Inspection reports are also available in the customer portal.

Our aim is to complete 80% of building inspections within 3 working days of the inspection request date; calculated from:

  • the date the inspection has been requested for, which is counted as day 0, and
  • the date the inspection is completed.

Book an inspection

To book an inspection call 0800 SELWYN (735 996).

  • We have daily limits on inspection bookings, depending on inspector availability.
  • If your quested day is full, you can join the waitlist – then if a spot opens up, we’ll contact you to confirm you’re ready.

When you can book

  • Inspections can be booked during working days only.
  • Requests made on weekends or public holidays will be processed on the next working day.

Plan ahead:

  • School holidays and public holidays may increase wait times.
  • Factor this into your project schedule.

Information required to make a booking

Have the following ready when booking:

  • Building consent number.
  • Site address.
  • Full name and phone number of the on-site contact for the day of inspection.
  • Preferred inspection date.
  • Type of inspection.
  • Licensed building practitioner (LBP) details for restricted building work.

Having this information ready helps us process your booking faster and avoid delays.

Note:

  • Pre-wrap inspections must have as-built frame and truss plans uploaded before your booking can be accepted.
  • If required LBP details are not provided, your inspection may not go ahead.

How bookings work

Booking rules

  • We usually book one inspection at a time.

Exceptions:

  • Drainage inspections may be booked differently.
  • Where building wrap allows, internal and external work may be inspected at the same time.
  • Same-day bookings are not accepted.
  • Rescheduling within 24 hours is treated as a missed booking (a re-inspection fee may apply).
  • Failed inspections must be rebooked (they will roll over to the next available slot automatically).
  • Contractors must be on site at the start of the confirmed time, or the inspection will be recorded as no access.

Waitlist

If your inspection is urgent:

  • You can ask to be added to the waitlist.
  • Being on the waitlist does not guarantee an earlier inspection.

If requesting an earlier inspection:

  • Make sure your work is ready from the earliest requested date.
  • We’ll contact you if an earlier inspection slot becomes available.
  • Let us know if your work won’t be ready to avoid a failed inspection.
