From 1 March 2024, a tyre stewardship fee was introduced on all new tyres purchased in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Tyrewise is New Zealand's first regulated product stewardship scheme aimed at reducing illegal dumping, stockpiles and sending tyres to landfill. This product stewardship scheme is covered by the Waste Minimisation (Tyres) Regulations 2023.

End-of-life tyres can be disposed of free of charge with your registered seller or fitter, or up to five tyres at a time can be taken to a registered public collection site (such as the Pines Resource Recovery Park) for no charge. Please note that a charge applies for car, motorbike and four-wheel drive tyres that are on rims. We cannot take heavy truck or tractor tyres that are on rims.

Please ensure that tyres are clean, both inside and out, before dropping them off.

Check out the Tyrewise website for more information.
