The purpose of the fund is to encourage residents to connect with the people who reside on the same streets. This helps build relationships, enhance social connections, create a sense of belonging, and improve the overall wellbeing of the community.

The Meet Your Street Fund has been updated as at 21 July 2026.

Please review the updated funding criteria below, before preparing or submitting an application.

Street gatherings are great ways to meet and connect with neighbours, fostering a supportive community where everyone, especially newcomers, feels welcome and included.

Ideas for your gathering could include:

  • Backyard BBQ
  • Outdoor games
  • International cuisine evening
  • Cultural celebrations

Funding Dates

Meet Your Street will have one funding round during the 2026/27 year.

  • Applications open: 1 September 2026
  • Applications close: 28 October 2026

Decisions will be notified by 30 November 2026.

Please note: The C213 Community Funding Policy applies to applications. Retrospective costs (expenses for initiatives completed before the funding round closes) cannot be funded.

Funding Amounts

Applicants may apply for funding of up to $100 (GST inclusive) per street gathering.

Any approved funding represents a maximum reimbursement limit. Payment will be made by reimbursement only (provided claim requirements are met) and based on actual eligible expenditure incurred, up to the approved amount.

Funding is contestable and not guaranteed.

Criteria

 

Who can be funded?

  • Individual residents living in Selwyn.

Who cannot be funded?

  • Council staff and people living in the same household as a Council staff member. While staff are ineligible to apply, they can encourage their neighbours to apply for the subsidy and they can still participate in the activity as a resident.
  • Recognised Residents Groups, Community Groups, Committees of Council and Businesses are not eligible to apply. Community Groups are encouraged to apply for the Community fund from Council for community activities.

What can be funded?

  • Kai/food and soft drinks
  • Entertainment
  • Equipment hire

What cannot be funded?

  • Alcohol (and zero alcohol wines/beers/RTDs)
  • Fireworks

Terms and Conditions for Applicants

  • The gathering must take place in the street that you live.
  • Only one Meet Your Street gathering can be subsidised per street per calendar year.
  • Any resident of the street where a gathering is being held can participate (i.e. it cannot be an exclusive or private gathering).
  • An application form must be submitted prior to the gathering. Retrospective applications will not be considered. Funding is contestable and not guaranteed.
  • The subsidy cannot be in conjunction with any other Council funding.
  • Preference is given to streets that have not previously received Meet Your Street funding.

Terms and Conditions for Successful Applications

Payment will be made to successful applications:

  • after the event
  • upon submission of a completed claim form, including:
    • receipts
    • at least one photo of the event

Payment will be based on actual eligible expenditure incurred, up to the approved amount.

Claims must be submitted within 30 days of the gathering and will only be processed once all required documentation has been received.
