The Canterbury Waste Joint Committee (CWJC) is responsible for advancing regional solid waste and hazardous waste minimisation in Canterbury.

The Canterbury Joint Waste Committee is made up of the following nine Canterbury Councils

  • Ashburton District Council
  • Selwyn District Council
  • Christchurch City Council
  • Timaru District Council
  • Hurunui District Council
  • Waimakariri District Council
  • Kaikoura District Council
  • Waimate District Council
  • MacKenzie District Council

Each council contributes levy funds towards a combined waste minimisation funding pool. The committee invites applications for funding for projects making advances in waste minimisation for the region.
