Support for complex development projects in Selwyn

Complex or significant development projects can involve several Council teams, approval steps, and dependencies.

Selwyn District Council's Development Facilitation Service gives you a consistent Council contact to help coordinate the agreed pathway, connect the right people and keep next steps clear.

The service works alongside Planning, Building, Development Engineering, Transport, Water Services, Infrastructure, Legal and other specialists, depending on your project.

Is this service right for your project?

The service may be useful when your project:

  • involves more than one Council approval pathway or team
  • is large, staged, multi-disciplinary or strategically important
  • Involves subdivision or land development
  • has significant infrastructure, servicing or transport matters
  • has linked approvals, dependencies or timing challenges
  • affects Council infrastructure or has significant public impact or interest

The service is generally not intended for straightforward residential building projects, simple resource consent applications or projects that can be managed through standard Council processes.

How it works

Send a short request: Tell us who you are, where the project is located and what you are planning.

  1. Meet with us: We will meet with you in person or online to understand the project and discuss whether the service could help. The initial discovery meeting is free.
  2. Agree the support: If the service is suitable and you choose to continue, we will agree the project, the coordination support, the hourly rate, the maximum hours or cost and the start date in writing before any paid work begins.

Submitting a request or attending the discovery meeting does not start the paid service.

What stays the same

Council specialists remain responsible for technical advice, application assessments, formal decisions required by law and their official records.

You remain responsible for your project information, professional advisers, high-quality applications, supporting documents, decisions and standard Council charges.

The service does not guarantee approval, remove or override legal requirements, standards or Council policies, replace professional advice or fast-track an application unless a lawful process is available.

Fees and cost control

The initial discovery meeting is free.

If you choose to continue, the Development Facilitation Service is billed monthly at $200, plus GST, per hour. These fees are separate from standard Council application fees, development contributions and other project charges.

Before any paid work begins, we will agree the service scope, hourly rate, maximum hours or cost and start date in writing. Read the standard Service Agreement

You will not be charged for work outside the agreed scope or maximum without your prior approval.
