We're Building a District Park

We're pleased to be in the early planning stages for the development of a District Park for Selwyn.

What is a District Park?

District parks are large-scale parks that are created for community recreation and enjoyment. They are developed to host a wide range of activities from walking trails, play and recreation areas to botanical gardens, educational, event space and sports grounds. Our vision is that this will be a destination site for the whole district.

Where will it be located?

The future park will be located in the outskirts of Rolleston, near the corner of Levi and Weedons Roads.

About six years ago, the Council secured the land to transform it into a large-scale public park to accommodate the needs of our rapidly growing community.

How big will the park be?

The first stage of development will provide approximately 35 hectares of park space for the community. By comparison the total size of Foster Park is approximately 28Ha.

The completed park will be large enough to provide a wide range of informal recreation, play, sport, active recreation, ecology and community activities.

Park development works are expected to commence in 2025/2026, after master planning of the new park is completed.

Help us Plant a Park

We are currently seeking your ideas and vision for what you want in our future District Park.

Does it have big trees or a botanical garden? Are there sports fields? Is there a large space for concerts and events? An area for farm animals or a built-in dog park?

Your views will help shape the development of this park. Please take a few minutes to complete our survey.

Take our survey and share your vision for the Selwyn District Park.

The survey is open until 10pm Monday 4 March 2024.
