After your building is finished and has achieved code compliance, it is important to look after your investment. In this section we have covered a number of considerations, from warranties and guarantees to building warrants of fitness, including dangerous, affected and insanitary buildings, earthquake-prone buildings and what to do following an earthquake.

| Carry out regular inspections of your building every few months to ensure finishings, fixtures and fittings remain in good condition |
| Clean your building regularly to help look after and maintain finishes |
| Commercial buildings will need an annual building warrant of fitness completed to ensure specified systems remain working as intended |
| If any items are identified that are deteriorating, not working properly or broken – check your warranties and guarantees provided with your building |
| Carry out necessary repair work as quickly as possible to prevent any damage to your building |
| Continue to enjoy your building for a long time |
