Following the National Policy Statement for Urban Development coming into effect on 20 August 2020, the Selwyn District Council has had to remove minimum parking requirements from its Operative Selwyn District Plan.

From 16 December 2020 the Council cannot require a minimum number of carparks  for new development. However car parking can still be provided by business and residential developers. Following this decision Council will, in the future, be reviewing its approach to managing car parking in the district. For more information read the National Policy Statement on Urban Development 2020 – car parking fact sheet.
