Leeston Road culvert upgrade
Temporary Reopening of Leeston Road
Selwyn District Council and its contractor have been closely monitoring the recent weather conditions and assessing their impact on the works underway at Leeston Road, along with the associated diversion routes in the area.
As a result of these weather-related impacts, a decision has been made to temporarily suspend the planned works and reopen Leeston Road until conditions are suitable for construction activities to resume.
Leeston Road will reopen from late afternoon of Wednesday, 8 July,
It will close again from 9.00am on Monday, 13 July to allow the works to continue.
Temporary speed restrictions will remain in place throughout this period to ensure the safety of road users. Please note that the closure of East Maddisons Road will remain in effect.
The temporary reopening of Leeston Road is intended to help alleviate travel pressures for residents and road users within the local area while adverse weather conditions persist.
While every effort is made to programme major roadworks to minimise disruption to the community, weather can significantly affect construction activities at any time of the year.
The scheduling of these works has been determined following careful assessment of a number of complex factors, including overall project planning, coordination with other construction activities in the district, and the need to minimise disruption to the community as far as practicable.
Reduced speed limits have been implemented on all designated diversion routes to help manage safety risks and provide a safer environment for all road users.
We appreciate the community's patience and understanding as these important works are completed.
Leeston Road culvert upgrades
From Monday 6 July - Friday 28 August CORDE will be carrying out works on behalf of Selwyn District Council to upgrade a culvert on Leeston Road.
This work has been planned to reduce flooding risk in the area, without impacting areas already prone to flooding. This work will reduce occassions when this road is closed due to flooding over winter, making the road safer and reducing closures and delays particularly over winter.
