Stormwater, Drainage and Watercourse Bylaw

Stormwater, Drainage and Watercourse Bylaw
The aim of the new bylaw is to manage and protect the health of our water by managing and controlling discharges into the Council managed stormwater and drainage networks.
We are required by law to have this bylaw and to review it regularly. The new bylaw is effectively a revision of the existing bylaw to take into account new legislation and responsibilities.
The main proposed changes are:
- Updates the discharge approvals process to consider risk
- Making the responsibilities of land owners and the Council clearer
The Council is engaging with the community at the moment on these proposed changes.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does this have to do with Local Water Done Well? Why wasn’t this consulted on with Local Water Done Well?
The Council’s Your Water Done Well consultation was around the administration of drinking water and wastewater services. The way stormwater is managed is not affected or proposed to change.
Why are you consulting on this?
This bylaw is a legal requirement and it must be updated or replaced regularly.
Why was this consultation longer than the Local Water Done Well consultation?
This consultation is required to be four weeks long by law. The Council extended the period of the Your Water Done Well consultation beyond the legal requirement, but enough time was also needed to get any outcome in place to meet the timeline required by the Government.
