Couple leaping off jetty into lake

With the hot weather on its way, summer swimming offers a perfect escape from the heat and Selwyn has some great local spots.

Picturesque Lake Pearson surrounded by the Southern Alps just off SH73 is known for its calm atmosphere. It’s an ideal get-away location for relaxing in a natural setting.

Lake Lyndon, near Porters Pass is one of Selwyn's colder lakes, so come prepared for lower temperatures. If the cold isn't your thing, explore alternative activities like jetboating, paddleboarding, or birdwatching on the lake.

Rakaia Gorge, with its natural beauty and turquoise waters, is an ideal spot for a summer swim with friends and family. It also provides opportunities for kayaking, fishing, and picnicking.

Alternatively, keep kids of all ages entertained at a variety of Selwyn’s community pools including Darfield, Southbridge and Sheffield. The Leeston Learner’s Pool is also perfect for families with young kids, and the Selwyn Aquatic Centre offers something for everyone — five pools, inflatables, paddleboats, and other fun events. Beat the heat and make a splash this summer!
