Child in Teddy bear costume

Summer in Selwyn just got a whole lot cuddlier with the return of the beloved Teddy Bears' Picnic. The event, which has become a highlight of the season, regularly draws in crowds of over 1700 children and adults, accompanied by a delightful array of teddy bears. Held in Rolleston, this year's picnic promises to be an even more fantastic family day out, blending fun and environmental consciousness through the Selwyn Event Sustainability Initiative.

Beyond the gathering of teddy bears and their companions, the Teddy Bears' Picnic is taking a step towards a greener future. Bring along your favourite mug and indulge in delicious coffee from The Coffee Lady Ltd. Plus, your reusable mug might just win you an incredible prize in a special giveaway.

The Council’s Senior Advisor Community Funding and Events Stefanie Banbury said “We’re proud to be embracing sustainability at this year’s event. We have a diverse range of food choices carefully crafted by vendors committed to eco-friendly practices and the dedicated team of bin ambassadors from Without Waste (WOW) are also back to guide people in sorting their waste, contributing towards making a positive environmental impact”.

As well as an amazing line up of entertainment on the main stage, the Pony Parties & Farmyard Friends team are back to introduce your teddy bears to a delightful array of animals, from rabbits and guinea pigs to mini goats, ponies and lambs. For those seeking an adventure on wheels, Pedalmania brings a collection of strange, clever, crazy, and bizarre pedal-powered bikes, and join the team from House of Bricks and Rachel from LEGO® Masters NZ Season 2 to build an amazing creation. It's a chance to let your imagination run wild while creating lasting memories.

Join in on all the family fun on Wednesday 17 January 10.30am–1.30pm at Brookside Park, Lowes and Brookside Roads, Rolleston. Postponement date will be Wednesday 24 January 2024.
