Private building consent authorities (BCAs) operating in the Selwyn District are required, under section 238A of the Building Act 2004, to provide documentation to the Territorial Authority within 5 working days after the BCA issues or received the information.

We have a process in place to facilitate the smooth transfer of information from the Private BCA to council records.

Please contact the Head of Building via contact us to arrange a meeting to

  • discuss the appropriate method of providing information before providing any documentation,
  • ensure that both parties are clear on the expectations and communication channels moving forward, and
  • have a clear understanding of the Private BCAs unique numbering format and the contact details to be used to ensure records are received and maintained on the public record.

Any proposed changes in process should also be discussed and agreed between the parties before implementation.
