Pay your dog registration
Your registration fees help pay for Council’s 24-hour dog control service, maintaining pound facilities, signage and public education activities.
Dog registration fees are based on a number of factors, including the age of your dog and any other dogs you may have.
You can pay your dog registration:
- online
- by internet banking (Council’s bank account details: Westpac 03 1587 0050000 00; please use your owner number as the reference)
- in person at Council offices in Rolleston or one of our service centres in Darfield, Leeston and Lincoln.
If you have an online dog account with us via Dogs Online, please log in to see and pay any outstanding fees for your dog.
If you don’t have an account yet in our Dogs Online system, you will need to create a username and password. All you need is your customer number and owner number which are on your registration form.
Dog registration fees
Dog registration fees are set under the Dog Control Act 1996. Disability assist and specified agency are as defined in section 2 of the Act.
Discounted fee (only if paid by 31 July 2023)
- Owner/admin fee................................................................. $10
- Registration fee per dog...................................................... $35
Full fee (1 August 2023 to 30 June 2024)*
- Owner/admin fee................................................................. $15
- Registration fee per dog...................................................... $45
*Pro-rata charge depending on the age of your dog, when in the year you register your new dog or when you have moved into Selwyn.
If payment is not received by 31 August 2023, the Council may issue an infringement of $300 per dog.
Gold card dogs
If your dog is 14 years old, has been registered with the Selwyn District Council for the last 10 years and your registration has been paid on time, no registration fee will be charged. You will still need to pay an owner/admin fee. Gold card dogs are set by the Council before re-registration.
