From late October 2026 until April 2028, Fulton Hogan will be carrying out stages 2 & 3 of the Lincoln Town Centre Upgrade.

October 2026

Lincoln Town Centre Upgrade  Stages 2 & 3 overnight works -  18 October to  22 October 2026

Along Gerald Street, from approximately 28 Gerald Street through to, and including, the Springs Road and Ellesmere Junction Road intersection. Overnight works will commence from Sunday 18 October, between 7pm and 7am, over approximately four nights.

Construction is set to begin on Stages 2 and 3 of the Lincoln Town Centre Upgrade, which will continue the transformation of Lincoln's town centre into a safer, more attractive and accessible place for everyone. As part of the project, crews will be upgrading streetscape features, underground infrastructure and road layouts to support Lincoln's growing community.

Early works and traffic management:

  • Before major construction begins, contractors will establish the work site and remove some existing street features, including traffic islands, on-street parking and the existing roundabout.
  • A temporary roundabout will be installed to help keep traffic moving while construction is underway. Hydro excavation will also be used to safely locate underground services before drainage work begins.

What road users can expect:

  • A temporary 30km/h speed limit and traffic management will be in place throughout the project.
  • Road layouts will change as construction progresses and may include temporary traffic lights, road closures, one-way systems, lane reductions and shoulder closures. Advance notice will be provided where possible.
  • Some bus stops may be temporarily relocated, with updated locations displayed at affected stops.
  • Footpath and cycle access through the work area will be maintained wherever possible.
  • Motorists should allow extra travel time and follow all signage when travelling through the area.
    Working hours
  • Most construction activities will take place Monday to Friday, 7am to 7pm, with Saturday and occasional night works undertaken where required. Residents and businesses will be notified in advance if night works are expected to affect them.

Minimising disruption:

  • The project team will work closely with residents, businesses and visitors throughout construction.
  • Measures will be in place to minimise noise, dust and vibration where possible.
  • There may be occasions when vehicle access to properties is temporarily restricted and affected property owners will be contacted in advance.

The timing of works is weather dependent, and regular updates will be provided as the project progresses.

October 2026 works

Gerald Street and side streets, overnight cycle lane surfacing works - 4 October to 11 October 2026

From Sunday 4 October, green surfacing will be applied to the new cycle lanes on Gerald Street between Kildare Terrace and West Belt. The work is expected to take around one week and will be carried out overnight between 7pm and 7am. This work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled if conditions are unsuitable.

Traffic impacts:

  • Kildare Terrace, Robert Street and Maurice Street will be closed at the intersections with Gerald Street while the green surfacing is applied on Monday 5 October.
  • Lyttelton Street, William Street and Kildare Terrace will be closed at the intersections with Gerald Street while the green surfacing is applied on Tuesday 6 October.
  • No vehicle access will be available in or out of affected sections of side streets during the scheduled work hours.
  • A temporary 30km/h speed limit will be in place through the work area.
  • Footpath and cycle access will be maintained where possible.
  • Emergency services access will be maintained at all times.

Motorists are asked to allow extra travel time, follow all temporary traffic management, and take care when travelling through the area.

September 2026 works

Gerald Street final surfacing and line marking overnight works - 20 September to 25 September 2026

Final road surfacing works are planned for Gerald Street in Lincoln as part of the Lincoln Town Centre upgrades. This is the final major stage of construction and will require overnight road closures.

Sunday 20 September and Tuesday 22 September (7pm to 7am):

  • Gerald Street between Kildare Terrace and 16 Gerald Street will be closed to all traffic.
  • There will be no vehicle access in or out of this section of Gerald Street or the affected side streets during these times.
  • Final road surfacing will be completed on Sunday, with line marking scheduled for Tuesday.

Monday 21 September and Wednesday 23 September (7pm to 7am):

  • Gerald Street between Maurice Street/Lyttelton Street and 28 Gerald Street, including the adjoining sections of West Belt, will be closed to all traffic.
  • There will be no vehicle access in or out of this area during these times.

Key information:

Footpath and cycle access will be maintained throughout the works. A temporary 30km/h speed limit will be in place around the work site.

Metro bus routes 80 and 820 will be detoured during the closures. Information on temporary stops and route changes will be available via Metro.

Access for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

August 2026 works

Gerald Street works to install pedestrian ramps - 24 August to 4 September 2026

From Monday 24 August to Friday 4 September, work will take place on Gerald Street to install two raised ramps at pedestrian crossings as part of the Lincoln Town Centre project. These improvements mark another key milestone as Stage 1 nears completion.

Traffic impacts:

  • Temporary traffic lights will be in place during construction.
  • Robert Street and William Street will operate as entry only for the duration of the works.
  • A temporary 30km/h speed limit will be in place through the work area.
  • Footpath and cycle access will be maintained.
  • Access to properties and businesses will remain available.

Work will generally be undertaken between 7am and 7pm, Monday to Friday, with Saturday or night works if required. Construction timing may be affected by weather conditions.

July 2026 works

Robert Street and William Street temporary road closures at intersection with Gerald Street - 27 July to 3 August 2026

From Monday 27 July, we’ll be working on Robert Street and on William Street, at the intersection with Gerald Street. During these works, we will be constructing new concrete ramps. Each ramp requires a 72-hour curing period to achieve sufficient strength before being reopened to traffic. Works are weather dependent and may be delayed if required.

  • The road closures will be in place from Monday 27 July and we expect the work to take about a week to complete.
  • There will be no access onto Gerald Street from Robert Street and vice versa during this time. Please use the detour routes via South Belt/Maurice Street.
  • William Street will also be closed at the intersection of Gerald Street for this same period, please use the detour routes via North Belt/Lyttelton Street.

Our friendly staff on site can assist with any queries. Footpath access around our work site will be maintained. A temporary 30km/h speed limit will be in place where we are working so we can keep our workers safe. Please drive with care when travelling through the site, allow extra time and pay attention to the signage and changes to the road layout.

General information:

  • Access to properties and businesses will be maintained.
  • The majority of the work will be carried out from Monday to Friday between 7:00am and 7:00pm, and on Saturdays and at night if needed.
  • The timing of the work and certain activities will depend on the weather and the condition of the roads. We will provide updates if there are changes to the planned works.
  • Measures will be in place to minimise noise, dust and vibration levels.
  • There will be construction noise as the work is completed but this will be kept to a minimum.

Traffic management map for Robert St and William St

Gerald Street and Kildare Terrace overnight works - 12 July to 17 July 2026

We’ll be carrying out overnight paving works between 7 pm and 6 am on Sunday 12 July until 17 July along the shop frontages between Hammer Hardware and I Sushi.  This work is expected to take around a week to complete.  This includes removing sections of the existing surface, preparing the area, and laying new pavers. A small section of kerb and channel and footpath resurfacing will also be completed at the Kildare Terrace and Gerald Street intersection.

The work will take place at night when many of the businesses will be closed to minimise the disruption for them during the day.

  • There will be some noise from machinery, trucks and work crews and temporary lighting will be used.
  • Our team will do their best to keep disruption to a minimum.
  • Pedestrian access will be restricted in some areas during the works.
  • Please follow directions from onsite staff and observe all signage.

Maurice Street and West Belt - temporary closures now extended to 17 July 2026

As part of Stage One of the Lincoln Town Centre project, we’ll be completing road reconstruction works at the intersections of Maurice Street and West Belt with Gerald Street.

Work began on Monday 8 June 2026 and is now expected to be complete by 17 July.

Temporary road closures will be in place during this period:

  • Maurice Street at the Gerald Street intersection will be closed
  • West Belt at the Gerald Street intersection will be closed
  • Detours will be in place via South Belt and Robert Street
  • West Belt (north) will temporarily be one way
  • Lyttelton Street will temporarily be one way

Footpath access will remain open, and access to properties, businesses and the public car parks will be maintained.

A temporary 30km/h speed limit will apply, please follow all signage and allow extra travel time.
