Disability assist dogs help their handlers navigate everyday life with greater independence, confidence and freedom. These certified dogs have a legal right to enter public places and businesses and travel on public transport.
To help make identification easier, a new disability assist dog ID card was launched in August. The ID card is issued by Service Dog Advisory New Zealand (SDANZ), which represents the organisations authorised under the Dog Control Act 1996 to train and certify disability assist dogs.
