The rain over the past days in the high country is causing river levels across the district to rise. The Selwyn River is expected to peak at Coes Ford overnight at a level where it is unsafe to use the ford.
Traffic Impact Coes Ford will be closed from 6pm Friday 28 August. Our transport team will assess the ford on Saturday morning to make a decision on reopening and we will update people once that decision has been made.
Environment Canterbury has issued a river alert for high river levels and we are reminding people to drive carefully and check the routes are open if you are travelling around rivers in Selwyn in the next few days.
