Safety repairs to Waimakariri Gorge Bridge

The Council will be carrying out critical repairs to replace damaged railings on the Waimakariri Gorge Bridge. This work is needed to keep the bridge safe for traffic.
To do this work the bridge will need to be closed from:
Saturday 31 October 2026 – 6:00 am to 6:00 pm
Sunday 1 November 2026 – 6:00 am to 6:00 pm
If the work is not able to be completed that weekend, it will be completed on:
Saturday 7 November and Sunday 8 November 2026
It would not be safe for traffic or those working on the bridge to have the bridge open, while these works are completed.
While the bridge has to be closed, we will be taking the opportunity to carry out other necessary work upgrading the road on the Selwyn side of the bridge reducing the need for disruption in the future.
